Yep we had to start running restraints back in the early 80's I think it was, after someones blower ended up in the spectators stands.   Budnicks

Just being a spectator can be dangerous at motor sport events, when things go wrong.

I remember in the early 80's standing near the starting line at Freemont watching, I think it was Frank Beard  & Gary Ormsby T/F cars when he (Beard) grenaded a blower (he had blower restraints) after launching, a couple of people that were in my crew, my car, Chet the starter & Rob a track worker got hit with debri, nothing serious but it was scarey. I was the closest but some how didn't get hit, my ears were ringing for a while, but that's it.  There was parts of the engine & blower all over covered in 70wt Nitro oil, what a mess.   Budnicks

Yep we were very lucky, Them are the restraints, The new Fuel, Alky & Pro-Mod stuff has a " Ballistic Bag " for containment. Much like the Diaper on the bottom end in the same classes, to contain oil & engine pieces from getting out or on the track surface. Great photos Tuff, I can all ways count on you for having the stuff.   Budnicks
