...like most with uncoated headers, it doesn't take long before they look like shit even after a re-coat of paint. Even my Jet coated Hedman's on my 70 GMC 1/2 ton started to rust and pit after only a year.  Has any one got any experience with header wrap? I don't think it looks bad but does it shorten the headers life span? Create heat problems somewhere else? ??? Any other solutions?

Never used them myself and really never liked the look of it.
What I do is an old trick I got from Chris`s dad.
bbq paint. Lay it on thick with a brush.

I never thought of that...wonder if they smell like a dog? I would think they'd dry pretty fast though.

I was watching Powerblock the other day and header wrap is good for cutting down under the hood heat, it will give you a better air/fuel mix

Pain in the ass, tie straps don't stay, and if close clearances gets in the way when doing plugs. Had them on my 81 malibu and only had 1/2 by the time I sold it. Also they look like shit as far as I'm concerned.

I had  Hedman Headers and Vortec heads on my SB 1/2 ton. I believe it was #5 plug that was difficult. More room to maneuver in the 1/2 ton  though.
