Might as well have a thread for this one.
The truck is an '06 4.3 5speed. My motor (LM7 5.3 rated at 295) and harness is a 2005. I'll try to do this write up style with lots of pics once I get moving. But basically this is a traditional V8 swap, what's needed is well everything from the V8 truck. Engine, harness, accesories (although alternator and p/s pump are the same), all your hoses A/C lines and frame mounts. I have 2 major snags, my truck is a 5speed, it's staying that way, so I have some harness work to do since I bought a harness that controls a 4l60e because nowhere could I find one from a 4.8 5speed truck, second is all the V6 Silverado's are drive by cable, all the V8 trucks 2003+ are drive by wire, easiest thing to is convert my truck over to DBW instead of using 99-02 V8 electronics and trying to make them work with the Body Control Module of the '06.
My engine came out of a rollover truck with only 20 000km, I managed to pick up a cam for it fairly cheap (Comp XE-R 220/222 @ .050 580-580 on a 114 LSA) that I'll put in. Picked that cam because it should have decent street manners and it will work very well with one of them hair dryer looking things way down the road.
I'll try to keep this updated, hoping to make this a fun little truck instead of the slug it is.

Well we figured at work we can do the swap over a week or so at night after work, and I work with my next door neighbor or there's my brothers truck while he's away at school.
Is yours a 4.3 too or are ya going from a 4.8/5.3 to 6.0 or just replacement?

Just thought I'd update this. Here it is a few days ago, wanted to snag a pic before the factory ugly covered it up. Quick rundown on the motor, Iron 5.3, 9.8 to 1 compression, Patriot stage 2 LS6 heads, EPS/Comp cam (222/226 .597/.598 on a 111+2), some unknown stainless headers with 1 7/8 primaries and 3" collectors, 3" y-pipe into a 3.5" single exhaust. And a 130ish shot from a plate kit. Tuned with HPTuners by Casey Rance, out of Belton, Texas (via email)

very nice indeed !!! Let us know how those Patriot heads hold up. I took heat for putting them on my motor but after 10 thou kms I haven't had any issues.

The heads are factory castings that Patriot CNC ports and mills down. They still have all the GM numbers on them, so they should hold up fine. I'm running their valve springs though and they kinda worry me. Good thing they're doubles

Here's the video of the first time it started. Untuned and a massive exhaust leak.
